BENEFITING: WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT
EVENT DATE: Nov 17, 2013
I am running the Philadelphia Marathon on November 17, 2013. To celebrate the occasion, I want to raise $2,500 for Wounded Warriors Project. The Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) began when several veterans and friends, moved by stories of the first wounded service members returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq, took action to help others in need. The program was started to provide comfort items to wounded service members and has grown into a complete rehabilitative effort to assist warriors as they transition back to civilian life.
Many of us run and exercise right in the neighborhood of the Walter Reed Medical Center where so many soldiers begin their journey to physical and emotional health. Many are rehabilitating with new artificial legs or other prosthetics. It's hard work and commitment training for a marathon, but the efforts of these soldiers is truly humbling. The WPP does a great job of helping men and women deal with the long difficult transition.
My company, Fannie Mae, will match a large amount of those who donate. Donate a little or a lot. Let the shakedown of friends begin for this extremely worthy cause!
(Note that you can also send me a check written out to "Wounded Warriors Project" to 8505 Aragon Lane, Chevy Chase, MD. 20815. Also, if you use a credit card, you don't have to select the Crowdrise processing fee).
