Stuff About Me:

Phillip Rincon is the Executive Director of Bochika, Inc.

Phillip was first inspired to support the work of civil society organizations while researching the trafficking of Colombian women for the purposes of forced sex work and civil society’s role in combating this clandestine crime as a graduate student at Florida International University. Phil came to understand that the greatest challenge faced by civil society organizations to meet their mission is the need for stronger organizational and programmatic support. Phil began his career as a nonprofit and nongovernment organization consultant in 2010 with the launch of Bochika, Inc.

Bochika has given Phil the professional support to grow as an expert in organizational capacity development and to specifically help community-based organizations that are otherwise disconnected from established means of national and international aid. Within Bochika, Phil has helped grow the organization’s programs throughout Colombia and has strengthened organizational and charity support to SAKALA, a youth educational center of 250 children in Citi Soleil, Port – au – Prince, Haiti.

Phil was chosen as a fellow of the US Department of State in 2011 and chosen as an expert consultant by the Florida Association for Volunteer Action in the Caribbean and Americas (FAVACA) during that same year, both esteemed honors that allowed him to travel and teach on organizational best practices to numerous organizations and local government institutions throughout the Departamento del Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Phil served as a fellow for the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) in 2009, and interned and chosen as an International Observer through the US Embassy Managua, Nicaragua in 2006.

Phillip is also an adjunct professor in the Social Science Department at Miami Dade College and holds a Master of Arts degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from Florida International University. In his spare time, Phillip is a cigar aficionado with a passion for Nicaraguan cigars.
