All learners deserve the best possible education--on that, I am sure we can all agree. I am a public high school Spanish teacher, and creating an inviting space for learning is imperative in the engagement of young minds.
The 2014-15 school year was my first year of teaching. It was also the first time I had ever earned a salary. My bank account never looked so full! But as a blossoming adult, I soon learned that stepping into the adult world meant new responsibilities and that meant managing my newly accruing funds. My only focus, mentally, financially, and emotionally, for those 10 months was providing the best educational experience for my learners that I knew how, so clearly all my funds went straight into setting up my classroom. After a year of exhausting my own funds, I realized that I would not be able to keep up the level of education that I wanted to provide and the level of education that my learners deserved every year by myself.
This is where you come in. We can't change the entire public school system overnight, but we can change the educational experience of a growing number of learners who pass through Ms. Baum's Spanish 1 class with a little help from even a small group of caring people. Any amount you feel inspired to give is immensely appreciated...by myself and all the learners I will ever teach. $5 could buy me a pack of paper (and being the frugal spender I am, that pack could last me months!); even $1 could buy me a pack of pencils (I'm a regular at my neighborhood dollar store).
I have found my passion and my calling in life; I was made for this job. Help me provide the kind of education that all children deserve. Together we can make a difference in a very tangible piece of our future world, our children.
