BENEFITING: Pets for Patriots
Join the three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury to raise funds benefiting Pets for Patriots. Contributions accepted at their Sunday, May 29th Hoops For Troops game and online donations graciously accepted through July 4, 2016!
Pets for Patriots helps military veterans adopt a new pet friend while giving hope and a home to the most overlooked sheltered animals. Our mission and our duty is to give the gifts of fidelity, joy and love to both veteran and pet through companion animal adoption.
Pets for Patriots is a nationally operating 501(c)(3) charity serving veterans from all armed forces and any era of service with the love and companionship of an adopted pet. In so doing we save the most overlooked homeless dogs and cats - those who are older, have special needs, or are large breed dogs - who otherwise face grim prospects if not adopted. We're proud to serve veterans from WWII to those currently in service.
Companion pets are proven, natural healers. Through our program, the responsibilities of pet parenthood give veterans coping with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression, anxiety a new sense of purpose - and for some, a new reason to live. For military families, a companion pet fills the void of a deployed parent or guardian, while veterans dealing with loneliness become more engaged in their surroundings with the support of a loyal pet. And for those veterans transitioning from military to civilian life, a companion pet becomes a trusted battle buddy to ease the way.
Since 2010 we have made more than 1,200 veteran-pet adoptions and distributed more than $292,000 to help veterans with 'welcome home' pet food and other essentials for their new best friends. More than $10,000 since 2015 has been granted to fund life-extending or life-saving care to veterans' adopted pets.
How we put your donation to work:
- $35 funds 1-2 weeks of essential medication for a sick pet
- $50 increases the visibility of overlooked pets at a shelter
- $150 provides food and other essentials for one veteran's adopted pet
- $250 fully funds one veteran-pet adoption
- $1,000 pays for a sick pet's overnight hospitalization for a sick pet, or funds four veteran-pet adoptions
Thank you to the Phoenix Mercury and all their pet-loving, patriotic fans...Your generosity saves lives!
