BENEFITING: The MGH Institute of Health Professions, Inc.
EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
Two years ago, I stated I was hanging up my running shoes forever. PLANS CHANGED and I am back at it again!
As I reflected upon the advances Mass General Hospital demonstrated in their ongoing fight against childhood cancer, I was compelled to dust off my sneakers. I will be running this year’s Boston Marathon in support of the pediatric hematology-oncology program at Mass General Hospital for Children (MGHfC). The funds raised by the marathon team will support the work of The Child-Life program, an innovative and essential program providing services such as therapeutic play, massage, acupuncture, music and art therapy to pediatric cancer patients.
This year’s marathon is a very special landmark for me – my 10th and FINAL Boston Marathon.
Hanging up my sneakers will be a bittersweet moment, however, I know with every stride I take and all the support MGH receives, it brings us all closer together in the fight against childhood cancer.
This year I am dedicating the first 21 miles of this run to my family, friends and co-workers who have supported me every step of the way. My final 5.2 marathon miles, I am dedicating to my twin brother Michael. I’d like to send a special thank you (in writing) to Michael who bet me I could not run one marathon. While running marathons initially started as a bet, it became a serious philanthropic pursuit for me. Through the support of my family, friends and co-workers, I have helped MGH raise the funds necessary to create and run innovative, life changing programs for individuals in need.
Thank you for some of the best, challenging and memorable steps! I am truly humbled by your generosity, commitment, encouragement, love and support.
