BENEFITING: SHADHIKA PROJECT
EVENT DATE: Aug 28, 2013
Pia is turning one and since she's been so fortunate in her short life that she thought it would be very meaningful to celebrate her birthday by supporting girls in India who have less than her.
She chose the Shadhika Project, a partner of Half the Sky Movement, as her charity as it raises resources to support locally controlled non-profits in India that are focused on the education, economic self-sufficiency, and empowerment of girls in order to break the cycle of poverty and gender inequality.
A donation of:
$50 covers the cost of a girl’s school supplies and uniforms for one year
$150 supports a girl’s elementary education for one year
$250 funds one year of secondary school
$500 underwrites a girl’s vocational training for one year
$1,000 covers four months living expenses for one girl in a safe house away from Kolkata’s Red Light District
