Pianos for Deanwood
Organized by: Brian Gorman
As I transition to teaching full-time in Deanwood, I am determined to confront some of the barriers facing students of low-income households that keep them from the joys of a music education. Many students want to learn the piano but cannot afford an instrument to practice on. Having an instrument at home is crucial to developing a love for, and discipline with, the piano. One of the unique aspects of my piano studio is the opportunity for students to receive a weighted-key digital piano on loan, with the potential to own it after exhibiting consistent attendance and work.
The money from this fundraiser will be used to purchase the pianos, as well as 5 other digital pianos to be used in a group piano course to be offered to students at Houston Elementary School in Deanwood. You can see examples of my teaching styles in the video attached to this site.
I have not yet established a 501(c)3, so these are not tax-deductible donations, but any amount you give would be supporting vital arts education access for the youth of Deanwood. Note--The money raised from this will be used exclusively for instruments and materials for students, not for my own salary. A small oversight committee is being formed to provide accountability for these and other funds raised. If you'd like to join my (very) occasional newsletter, signup here!
