Leap is a private nonprofit organization founded in 1979 as a response to the passing of California Proposition 13, which dramatically reduced state funding for education, effectively eliminating the arts from public elementary schools.
Encouraged by the positive changes witnessed in their pilot program and by an overwhelming response from the community, Leap expanded its programs and a dynamic group of teaching artists joined the Leap roster. Today, Leap’s residency programs in the arts provide more than 29 schools and 6,500 students each year with valuable learning experiences that enhance their overall education and prepare them for future success in school and in their communities. Page & Turnbull regularly contributes to Leap for their Sandcastle Contest, and was looking to host another fundriaser when they found Picnic Dash Productions. Carolyn Kiernat of Page & Turnbull teamed up with Leila Adell of Picnic Dash Productions to create a 5k/10k fundraiser for Leap, which will start at 11am at Black Point Battery on April 1st, 2012. Other San Francisco architects who support Leap, AIA and ARG, have also joined in to help out with the race. This fundraising team hopes that Crowdrise will help them reach their goal of $3000.
