I am currently a member of Partners in Health Engage at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and we are hosting a campaign during the month of November called "We Will Deliver!" (love the pun). It is our promise to help raise funds to expand access to maternal and child health care access at Pleebo Health Care Center, which is in Maryland County, Liberia. By funding operating costs of a new maternity ward and building strong health systems, we aim to double the health center’s capacity for safe deliveries,
In 2014, Ebola struck Liberia and weakened the already fragile health systems. It killed caregivers, shut down facilities, reversed years of hard-won progress in maternal child health. Today, Liberia’s maternal mortality rate has increased to 1,072 deaths per 100,000 live births, which is one of the highest in the world.
When Partners in Health arrived at the Pleebo Health Center in 2014, we made a promise to the community that we would bring first-class health care to the mothers and children of Liberia. Now it’s time to deliver on that promise.
Join me and help bring better health care to the people in Maryland County. Mothers cannot wait for safe births and children cannot wait for quality care. We Will Deliver! on our promise, and bring top-quality health care to our Liberian community!
