As part of Partners in Health Engage, we are fundraising to expand access to maternal and child health at the Pleebo Health Center in Libera, which serves a population of 160,000. By funding the operating costs of a new maternity ward and building a stronger health system, we aim to double Pleebo's capacity for safe deliveries. With an already fragile health system, Liberia was devastated by the Ebola epidemic and not only did people die of infection but even more died from the effects of the disease on the nation. The progress made in previous years especially in Maternal and Child Health collapsed as the maternal mortality rate increased from 700 to 1,072 deaths per 100,000, one of the highest in the world. Throughout the month of November our goal is to raise enough money to add 7 postpartum beds, 3 delivery beds, the expansion of the family planning consult room, and the expansion of the ante natal consult room to the Pleebo Health Center so we can see over 30,000 facility-based births over the next five years!! We will deliver on these goals and promises with your help! Any donation can have a lasting impact as just $15 covers the cost of a Mama Baby Kit, which encourages safe-facility based births and decreases the maternal mortality rate. Thank you for your support on our journey to improve global health!
