Over 1000 women out of 100,000 die due to childbirth in Liberia. Compare that to 28 out of 100,000 in the United States.
There are less public sector doctors (45) in the entire country of Liberia than on 1 one floor of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. There are fewer than 200 total doctors, public sector or not, to serve the entire 4.3 million population.
Childbirth is a natural process that should not be a death sentence.
Partners in Health is refurbishing the Pleebo Health Center in Liberia to prevent these senseless deaths. All funds raised are to ensure full coverage of the first year of operating costs for this clinic -- and a generous anonymous donor has agreed to match all our fundraising dollar for dollar up to $100,000! Please consider making a contribution!
