Vassar College's Prohealth Club has always focused on child and maternal health. For years, we have worked with the Catharine Street Community Center in Poughkeepsie, which provides after-school programs for children to engage in fun activities as well as services for HIV/AIDS infected mothers and affected individuals and families. The We Will Deliver Fundraiser is a way we can help women and children beyond our community, who suffer from a far more severe lack of resources. The Pleebo Health Center, in Liberia, in particular, is a place that is in dire need of our help. In 2014, an Ebola outbreak in Liberia had a devastating impact on the country's already poor health system, shutting down facilities and reversing any progress that had been made in improvements in maternal and child health. Currently, Liberia’s maternal mortality rate has increased to 1,072 deaths per 100,000 live births -- one of the highest in the world. Your contribution would make an immense impact. Just to list some statisitcs--your $10 donation would pay for 1 bed net and a course of malaria prophylaxis, $15 would cover the cost of a Mama Baby Kit, which encourages safe facility-based births, $30 would pay for supplements to treat severe malnutrition for one person for one year, $100 allows PIH to screen 100 pregnant women for HIV, and $300 would provide a family enrolled in our TB/HIV Program monthly food packages for 6 months. Whether you donate $10 or $300, your contribution would help a ton and would be greatly appreciated!
