BENEFITING: PEACE ISLANDS INSTITUTE INC
We are launching a brand new program titled, Peace Islands Young Ambassadors which provides educational resources to public high school students in under-resourced urban areas by exposing them to the United Nations and global topics.
This year long, after-school program includes workshops that encourage participants to collaborate in problem-solving exercises, exposure trips to the United Nations, lectures by academic experts on the environment, social and economic topics and our annual youth leadership conference to commemorate UN Universal Children’s Day.
There is a need for this type of program because public education is the cornerstone of our democracy and the only avenue through which today’s students, who are the leaders of tomorrow, can attain global competency.
Despite this fact, a recent study published by The National Education Association (NEA) asserts that public schools, especially in poor urban areas, lag behind their peers in other countries in their knowledge of geography, foreign language and cultures. Without this global competency, students will fail to become productive citizens in an interconnected world.
We encourage you to support our organization and the promotion of educating the leaders of tomorrow.
