THE STORY:

Hi, I’m Sarah Hamer, the founder of the Pink Energy Project.

Many know me from my work in the scrapbooking community with Pink by Design and Pink Cricut.

So, what does scrapbooking have to do with energy?

Earlier this year, my family visited Hawaii and we saw how beautiful it was and how lucky people were to live there. What we didn’t notice, were the hardships families face being so far away from the mainland. Energy is a very expensive commodity that they spend billions of dollars a year importing oil to power their islands. For hospitals and schools it becomes problematic quickly, due to the size and urgency of electricity.

Seeing the need, we decided to start off on a new adventure. Of course it had to be pink, and it had to have an impact on the future for our children. Our goal is to offset these burdensome costs,
so that hospitals and schools can focus on what’s truly important; healing and teaching.

Together we can make a difference in the lives of millions.

Why Wind Energy Matters:
We have a responsibility to prepare for future generations… and right now, the numbers show that we, as a society, are failing in that responsibility.
Here’s the problem:
70% of the electricity used in the United States comes from Fossil Fuels at a higher cost than renewable energy.

And: on average K-12 school districts, in the US, spend nearly $6 Billion annually on energy. That is more than they spend on textbooks and computers combined.

And: on average acute care hospitals, in the US, spend nearly $5.5 Billion annually on energy. That is more than they spend on textbooks and computers combined.

These problems won't solve themselves. Real change requires us all to work together. We cannot afford to waste valuable time and energy, on sources that will destroy the next generation.
Why the Pink Energy Project:
The Pink Energy Project provides the world’s first Pink wind turbines with a portion of the proceeds going to breast cancer research.

First, not all citizens have access to affordable electricity. Our goal is to provide economic relief to remote areas, and in many remote areas the quality of life is poor due to the cost of living. To reach communities everywhere: we need to start in the most difficult of places, a place where electricity costs $.40 kwh. That’s 4-5 times the national average.

Second, a resounding number of communities have told us they want affordable energy for the local hospitals, schools, and public service agencies. Typically this has a tremendous start up cost as the complete installation of one 100kw turbine project will range from $1M to $2.7M. We will provide an installed turbine, along with the tools necessary to greatly reduce the need for fossil fuels, in as many communities as possible.
Why Pink:
Everyone knows that renewables are “green.” Well Pink is the new Green! This project has an added benefit. 15% of all proceeds from the project will go to Breast Cancer survivors, charities, research, and memorial funds.

Join our effort by putting a little pink in the world around you. We are actively looking for individuals and groups of like minded individuals. You don’t have to be drawn to pink, breast cancer, or renewable energy to help
