EVENT DATE: Oct 22, 2016
Robert Morris University's Campus Recreation is hosting the first Pittsburgh dash4debra 5K Run/Walk. All proceeds from the race will benefit The Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) Research Association of America (debra), the only national nonprofit dedicated to supporting the research for a cure or treatment while providing services and programs to those that suffer from EB. T-shirts and race bibs will be provided by debra.
EB is “The Worst Disease You've Never Heard Of” and as of today there is no treatment or cure. Pain management, wound care and preventative bandaging are the only options for those who suffer from this rare, genetic condition. In the simplest of terms, EB is caused by the inability to produce one of several proteins that are the building blocks of connective tissue. In all of its forms, those with EB share one common manifestation of extremely fragile skin that blisters or tears with the slightest friction or trauma. Unfortunately, EB also affects many internal organs and bodily systems. The list of secondary complications is long and requires multiple interventions from a range of medical specialists. Register today for the event or please contribute. Any amount would be so greatly appreciated no matter how small! #WeFightEB!
