Plant the Education Seed

My name is Christina Torres and I'm a kindergarten teacher working in a city where the majority of students are economically disadvantaged. Most of them qualify for either the free or reduced meal program at our school, and are regularly exposed to events in the neighborhood that no children should ever see.
This is my 4th year, and in order to continue teaching I need to clear my preliminary credential. A teacher must enroll in an induction program that covers the necessary requirements to clear a credential in the state of California. Most school districts pay for their teachers to be enrolled in these programs.
Unfortunately, I haven't had the luck to work in such districts. My district however, offers the option to complete the program through an outside agency but with an overwhelming out of pocket cost. The cost for the program is $3,500.
With my own every day living expenses, college loans, and the financial responsibility of both of my parents who don't work due to disabilities, paying for the induction program is almost impossible and a definite financial hardship.
If you can help out in any way possible, you would alleviate my financial burden and help me continue on in a career that I love and am passionate about.
I am teaching in the very kindergarten class that I attended! I am determined to motivate my kids to enjoy learning, choose education as a means out of their current circumstances in the future, and to plant a seed that will inspire them to go after their dreams. My kids are young, but capable of achieving so much and dream bigger than most adults that I know. If I can continue to serve as a real-life role model that many of them don't have in their lives, maybe that will be the seed that takes root in their futures.
Thanks for your support!
