WHY WE NEED TO WIN?
The $25,000 will allow up to establish a scholarship fund to get boys out of dangerous and failing schools and into better educational environments.
WHO ARE WE AND WHAT DO WE DO ?
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit Leadership Development Organization providing opportunities for young men to access educational resources, leadership development skills and guidance that will enable them to succeed in life and help their communities.
THE CHALLENGES FACING YOUNG MEN between the ages of 12 and 18 living in urban America are well known. Gang violence, poor schools, peer pressure and poverty are some the daily challenges that scholars participating in Platinum Minds programs' face. We believe that every young man has the right to soar to his highest potential and by helping him achieve his goals both his community and his family benefit.
Platinum Minds has developed A UNIQUE COMBINATION OF STRATEGIES with a proven track record of assisting young men achieve high honors regardless of the circumstances in their day to day lives. The young men stay in our leadership program until they complete high school. With over six years of experience in providing these services, we can say that the young men who graduate from our program have developed the skills and talents required to succeed in life and postively address the problems in their communities. The result of work can be seen in the achievements of our scholars. This year our eight graduating scholars received a combined $802,000 in college scholarship support. THAT'S OUTSTANDING FOR A CHARITY OUR SIZE!
There is a tremendous need for our services among families in our urban areas. Families are looking for solutions to help keep their young men from falling prey to the violence, crime, other social issues within their communities. Platinum Minds is on a positive tract to help urban familiies in need. http://vimeo.com/35929741

WHY SUPPORT US?
We have a proven track record of getting the job done. We would like to win this challenge and can't do it without your support. Your donation of at least $5 will make a difference! Every donation, however small, counts ! The funds raised through this challenge will help support monthly leadership workshops in three cities, college preparation classes, tuition assistance for scholars in need to attend private secondary schools, our mentoring program, summer camps and our community action programs such the Frederick Douglas Reading Program. For more information on our programs, check out www.platinumminds.org.
We believe GOD CREATE US EACH WITH A UNIQUE TALENT TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE giving each man the potential to advance his community and society at large, and these gifts should not be allowed to fall through the cracks in our system. The young men who join our program come with a positive attitude and are willing to step up to the challenges required to improve themselves and become productive members of our society. Our program uses a hands-on approach that enables our scholars to “learn-by-doing” in a positive environment helping them to build the skills needed to succeed in life and experience life outside of their comfort zones.
By helping to nurture our scholars over 4 to 5 years, we believe that they can become beacons of light to shine and guide the next generation of leaders in their communities. Take the case of Christian, who was in our program from 8th grade through to his senior year in High School, and is now a sophomore at Rutgers University. As Christian said in 2012 “ ..without Platinum Minds and its rewarding programs my exposure would have been minimal to none. Platinum Minds provided me the opportunity to get out of my under-achieving public education system and enroll in Roselle Catholic High School where I am now on the principle’s list, a peer counselor, captain of the track team, and a regular mentor with the Frederick Douglass Reading Program. Who would’ve thought? Me, a boy coming from a challenging environment could enter a school not knowing anyone and make such a difference in the community”. Platinum Minds has supported over 300 boys and young men from urban cities in New Jersey to achieve their goals and serve their communities. Platinum Minds has a 100% graduation rate and all our graduating scholars go on to college, each with a desire to make a difference.
Our methods work, but we need your support to continue our mission. Please consider supporting us by making at least a $5 donation and also sharing this link with your friends and family. Help us reach our target. Your help is vital to our success.
