Play for the Sun is a girls football fundraising event that will take place on the 30th of May 2015 in Nairobi, Kenya. The aim of the event is to raise funds and awareness for solar energy and female entrepreneurship in association with the Energy for Change Foundation. The proceeds of this event will go towards aiding the Solar Sister organization in launching their promising campaign to eradicate energy poverty in rural Kenya by empowering women with economic opportunity.
Solar Sister helps women by giving them a hand up, not a hand out. Solar Sister’s innovative social enterprise model enables a woman to start a solar business that will generate income so she can support her family for years to come. The effect of energy poverty in Africa is devastating, especially for the health and safety of women, but solar energy has the potential to change that!
Play for the Sun was created as a means of combining social and environmental
awareness with an interactive family fun day for young and old. 120 girls from underprivileged areas in Nairobi will participate in the tournament and raise funds for their fellow countrywomen in rural areas.
The event will also underline the importance of sports for women and girls. Studies have shown that young women who play sports have higher levels of confidence and a more positive body image; are less likely to be involved in unwanted pregnancies; more likely to get better grades in school and more likely to graduate than girls who do not play sports!

We are very much looking forward to this event and hope that you wish to support us in this exciting adventure! We truly value any amount that you are willing to donate!
On behalf of the Play for the Sun 2015 team: THANK YOU!!
