THE STORY:

Hope Academy is a private school located in Orange, Ct. Our program accommodates students from first grade through twelfth grade who have not met with success in a traditional academic setting due to learning differences including but not limited to learning disabilities, anxiety, school-phobia, high functioning autism, executive functioning deficiencies, emotional dysfunctions, and cognitive issues.

Our students require a small setting in order to be successful in the classroom. Although these students are receiving the individualized instruction that they need, they do miss out on some of the things that students get at a public school, such as a playground. It is our goal as their teachers to help them love school and make it as fun as possible. Building a playground for these students would be a dream come true for them.

Hope Academy was founded by Ken and Laura Carroll. They had a vision to create a school to help their son succeed. The school was opened with only two students and since then it has grown to over 50 students. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll have created a nurturing environment and have shared their vision and goals in order to reach numerous students who have not met with success in traditional school settings. We are proud to be celebrating our 15th anniversary this year!

Mr. Carroll fought a courageous battle with cancer for many years, and unfortunately passed away on June 7, 2015. Our school would like to find a way to honor him for his contributions that have changed the lives of so many children. Building a playground to honor Mr. Carroll would provide us with a way to remember all that he has given to these children and also provide the children with a place to play.

We would like to create a H.O.P.E Course (Hands On Physical Education). It is our “hope” that we can complete this project, so that Mr. Carroll can look down on all of the children playing on the playground. We are hoping that we can reach this goal because “every child deserves a little hope.”
