Jack turns three tomorrow and as his birthday approaches and all the cards, emails, and presents for this little spirited, smart, crazy and loving child roll in I realize more and more just how fortunate we are. He has everything a three year old boy could want: good health, love, support, education, toys (very important at this age!) and of course a mom and dad who are only too happy to tuck him in to his safe, comfy bed every night.
This year in honor of his birthday, and in the spirit of teaching him that giving back is just as important (if not more!) than receiving, we are asking for your support to buy a playground for the Children's House Gawan in Mariupol, Romania. The Children's House is a drop-in center for children of alcoholics and their families that provides a daily program of structured leisure activities, delivers psycho-social support as well as counselling on substance abuse and HIV/AIDS and other supportive services, especially tutoring. Adolescents are encouraged to begin an education or apprenticeship, or to find a formal job and are supported in this process. Warm meals are distributed for free to cater for the most urgent health needs of the children.
Most of you know that I recently started working for the International Blue Cross in Bern, Switzerland. We have projects all over the world that are grass-roots, volunteer run in nature and target those most in need. I have seen international project work at the grass-roots level and this is a program I truly believe worthy of your support. Please help Jack buy a new playground for these children so that they too can have a place to run, jump, have fun and be wild just like my amazing little THREE year old!!
Lots of love,
