Please help my friend and her pets! Urgent!
Organized by: Michelle Barker
Hello! My name is Michelle and I am starting this crowdrise in order to help a very close friend of 5+ years. She’s hit a “rough patch” of sorts in her life. I’ve been offering as much help as I possibly can, including aiding in financial (and emotional, of course!) support. She’s 19 and has been desperately trying to get a start on her life. However, she lives in an extremely small town and any job opportunities have been lost despite her best efforts. She has no vehicle, nor a driver’s license. She has nothing nor any help to get her started in life. My family is more than willing to help her along, and has been trying, but she lives 12-14 hours away. She has already put in several job applications here in Bristol in the hopes to have a job immediately as she arrives, as well as already beginning to look for housing so that she doesn’t have to continually bunk in my (already overcrowded!) house. At this point, you may be wondering, "Doesn't she have family or something that can help her other than starting a GoFundMe?" No. She doesn't. To put it in the friendliest of terms, they’ve offered practically no guidance of aid in this. She’s been kicked out twice already and there’ve already been threats towards another such repeat. Thus, the reason for why we’ve finally resorted to asking for the kindness of others: To get her out before she’s forced on the streets again. Not only would this be tough on her for obvious reasons, that would leave her and her pets (Two dogs and four cats) exposed to the elements. With winter on the way, it’s plain to see why we’ve begun to grow more desperate about pushing the arrival date closer. Here is the plan, because if you are willing to help and donate, we feel that you should be informed of what your money is going to be spent on. We have looked into the cost of everything she’ll need to get her from where she is, Kansas, to where I’m located, Tennessee. Our grand total for everything required to just relocate her is approximately $600, including some money in addition for “wiggle room” in case something goes awry. Luckily, she does currently have someone who’s willing to drive her here for nothing more than the cost of gas money (Ideally about $100-150). A small uhaul will also be necessary to haul her few possessions and her pets safely here, adding about $160 dollars to the total. She has no money even for the smallest of snacks for her 3-4 day journey, so we’ve included meal costs into the budget, and, if absolutely necessary, a cheap hotel room to get her through a night or two. We’d initially wanted to just do a bus ticket for simplicity’s sake, but due to her pets, it wasn’t feasible. She has two dogs, a golden retriever and a small shepherd mix. Plus four cats of mixed breed. She absolutely cannot separate from these pets long term due to practically crippling anxiety, and we do not intend for her to have to. She considers these her family and has given up everything to care for them. In order to get the animals here we are needing to also purchase large dog crates to keep all of the aforementioned pets safe for the long trip. Just with everything so far we have reached around $500-600, which doesn't cover the rent or down payment for when she arrives, hence our higher “goal”. Please. Any amount helps, even if it’s just a dollar. I’m not the biggest fan of asking for aid either, but I don’t see how we can get her here in time, ideally before driving conditions become dangerous from winter’s arrival. We’ve both been working odd jobs wherever possible. For her, though, most of it has gone towards keeping her pets fed and well taken care of, and as a student, there’s not always a lot I can personally contribute.
