In early March, our mom had what she thought was a cyst removed from the back of her head. Just out of caution, her doctor sent it off for pathology. Days later, she began having excruciating head and neck pain. Finally, she had my sister take her to the ER because she couldn't take the pain. What she found out in the ER has rocked our family. The doctor, after getting a CT of her head, found that the "cyst" on the back of her head was in fact a large, cancerous tumor pressing on her brain that had broken through her skull. They also found a very large cancerous mass in her lung that is compressing a vital blood vessel, the aorta. We also found out that the cancer is much more extensive than originally thought as it is permeating her left hip, her tailbone, and a portion of her pelvis. It is also in a few of her lymph nodes. She finished radiation on her head mass and was planning on beginning radiation on her lung mass; however, because of the dangers of her hip breaking and the tumor causing extensive bleeding, the treatment plan is taking a different course. She is planning to start radiation of the pelvis and aggressive chemotherapy. She is also recovering from a surgery to have a port implanted. Our mom has never, ever been sick. She'll probably kill us for starting this page because she never asks anyone for anything. But she needs everyone's help if she's going to beat this. She has had to go on leave from her job and there's a FIVE month waiting period for federal help. ANYTHING you can contribute will help her. Thanks, -Stacy & Elizabeth (Susan's daughters)
