BENEFITING: Kai Loa Inc
The sole mission of KAI LOA, Inc. is to help ensure the quality and long-term success of Ke Kula ʻo Samuel M. Kamakau, Laboratory Public Charter School (LPCS), a Preschool-Grade 12 Hawaiian Immersion laboratory public charter school on the island of O’ahu. The school was founded in response to the expressed needs of Native Hawaiian families to increase student achievement through culturally based education. Ke Kula ‘o SM Kamakau’s mission is to foster success for all members of our learning community by providing a safe, culturally healthy and responsive learning environment so our children can thrive!
Our immediate need:
With no state funding to support facilities, Charter Schools in the State of Hawaii are responsible for the development and maintenance of their own sites and school buildings. We are currently fundraising to pave and build a covered area where our students gather each day for breakfast and lunch.
We are blessed with daily rains in Haiku valley, however, this weather presents challenges for our meal area, contributing to muddy conditions. Our students currently gather in an area under a temporary tent which floods during rainy weather. We are hopeful that by creating a dry, clean and comfortable place to gather for meals and during non-instructional time, we would positively impact learning for our entire school community.
Our parent support group, Naepuni Aloha, has been fundraising over the past several years to make improvements to this specifc area. We have the architectural plans in place and would be humbled by donations to make our goal to complete this project.
