5 Law Students went to the Palm Beach County School Board Meeting on March 16, 2016 to demand that they be given a certified Pre-AICE Geometry teacher. Why? Because they had been given nothing but unqualified substitutes all year These substitutes did nothing but show them 'Youtube' videos and shook them down for donuts and sweets.
Their class, Pre-AICE Geometry, was supposed to be an advanced level Math Program, much like AP or IB, where the students receive college credit if they pass their End of Course exam. But at Palm Beach Lakes Community High School in West Palm Beach, Florida, a school that is amongst the poorest in the county; where there are less than 50 white students TOTAL and over 90% recieve free or reduced lunch, it is just one of the many typically underfunded and racially segregated "Black" schools that receive no attention from the District office.
The students, however, demand the same things that their White counterparts do: a quality Education. When they learned that they were getting unequal treatment in their Attorney-Teacher's Law class...they decided to act. Our plea for financial support is to assist in their law suit against the district. Funds raised will help pay for: Experts, Depositions, witnesses, and other unexpected legal fees.
The district has unlimited funds whereas our few students and their parents are fighting on behalf of approximately 150-200 students at their school, and 90,000 black and brown children being delivered unequal education. It is all of our goals to expose this entire scheme to use these children to continue to receive federal money.
Please follow us on our Website: www.watsonleigh.com and our Facebook page Facebook/Watsonleigh for continuous updates. We are keeping this whole saga public so students and parents everywhere will have a model to take back control of their children's education.
