Please Help A Young Student In Nepal Pay For Medical School!
Organized by: Mary DeLucia
This crowd-funding request is for a very special person I met during my travels to Nepal: my little brother, Nirajan, Kathayat, a 20 year old student from a remote part of Nepal named Dolpa. Nirajan recently passed the 12th grade in 2015 with a degree in biology, and has wanted to become a medical doctor since he was a child. Like many places around the world, college costs money in Nepal, and the only students who can afford higher education are from families with strong economic backgrounds. Unfortunately, Nirajan's family cannot financially contribute to his education goals. Which is why I am calling to you all today to donate whatever you can to help this ambitious, young student reach his life-long dream of providing quality medical care to people who are more likely to die from minor illnesses before reaching a hospital. Medical school is 6 years in Nepal and between tuition, books, and living accommodations costs a total of 4,500,000 Nepali rupees (which is $45,000).
A Message From Nirajan:
As I am from an underdeveloped part of Nepal, I have seen many serious illnesses that could be prevented with basic medical care. People are unaware of all types of life threatening health problems: for example, mothers don’t know that deliveries should be done in hospitals – even my own mother gave birth to me while working in the field – due to lack of proper delivery services, many mothers lose their lives during childbirth. Likewise, lack of proper cleanliness and scarcity of medicine causes children who have just started their lives to die from very minor diseases, such as diarrhea. Many older and younger people die from lung cancer, due to smoking and cooking over wood-burning fires. People are victims of diseases like asthma, diabetes, bronchitis, uterine cancer, gastritis, diarrhea, pneumonia, and many others, causing people to face very painful deaths.
People in Dolpa lack awareness about their health. There are no hospitals nearby the village, and no proper roads, transportation, or communication facilities. If people become sick, then they must be carried to medical care, and many die from not getting proper treatment in time, I've seen these tragedies!
Therefore, I have decided to study medicine and open quality hospitals in these areas to help these people and save them from untimely deaths. I want to serve humanity through medicine! Unfortunately, getting a degree in medicine is very tough and expensive in Nepal. As I have been a promising student since childhood, and I know I will succeed academically, but I can’t afford to pay for my degree. This is why I am reaching out for help. I know that if I get this degree I will surely bring smiles to the faces of thousands of people in remote areas of Nepal. Thank you for your help!
The deadline I must meet is August 1, 2016. I am asking for financial assistance so that I can continue furthering my education and reach my goals and aspirations. Any donations made to attain my degree will help to give people their precious lives – apart from building my future – and for that I could not be more thankful! My humble request is for all of you to consider giving 1 – 5% of your monthly income for my education. If hundreds of people like you donate only that small percentage, it will change my life, and help me achieve my goals of providing quality health services to many rural people in my home country!
