Please Help Me Achieve My Dream
Organized by: Taylor Garcia
My name is Taylor Garcia am I looking for financial support for my college education. After lots of hard work and determination I was recently accepted into my dream school, Florida State University. The cost of attendance amounts to over $3,500; although it may not sound like a lot to most, it is still significantly higher than that of my capability of affording, and I am very worried of losing my opportunity. I am not one who usually reaches out for help, but I have reached the point where I am unable to help myself and am humbly asking for any support possible. The past 5 years have been very difficult to get through with both family and financial struggles. As I entered high school, my parents underwent a divorce, and after selling our house, my father was forced to live in the attic of his sister's garage and my mother was able to rent a small apartment but after 2 months she became unemployed . The separation and move were very tough on me and the financial struggle that it caused became very challenging. During the next few years, my sister and I moved back and forth between my parents in hopes to alleviate their financial struggles. About a year ago my father was finally able to get an apartment, which is definitely a step up from living in his sister's attic, but I know he struggles to pay his bills, whether he wants to admit it or not. My mom has also struggled a lot to pay her rent due to her unemployment, and after maxing out her credit cards and accumulating a considerable amount of debt, we were recently forced to move in with my father in his apartment despite their divorce, to help them both get back on their feet by lessening their monthly bills. With this happening, I will not be able to count on them to help me pay for my attendance to Florida State. I have been working as much as I can, applying for scholarships, and received a small amount from financial aid at FSU, but it still isn't even close to being enough to paying for my tuition. Throughout high school I was able to maintain the A and B honor role as I not only actively participated as a member of numerous clubs and as captain of the varsity soccer team, and also worked part time at a grocery store, restaurant and carpet cleaning service. After finally graduating, I realized I wasn't going to be able to afford to attend Florida State, so I was forced to attend Radford University with the money I had saved up and help from financial aid. After working hard I was able to finish my freshman year with a 3.3 gpa, but finally decided that it was time to do whatever it takes and make whatever sacrifices necessary in order to attend my dream school. Florida State is my absolute dream school and I am doing all that I can in order to pursue my education in criminal justice there, knowing that they are ranked one of the top universities in the nation in that field. I am determined to show people that if you work hard, anything is possible. I will appreciate any support given regardless of the amount, and I will make sure to take full advantage of it by working hard to make something of myself and make a difference. I appreciate even the time spent to read my story. Help me become a Seminole! Thank you so much.
