THE STORY:

Pastor Thomas Dixon here, co-founder of The Coalition (People United to Take Back Our Community). Several years ago, I left a “pulpit” ministry and moved outside the walls of the church building and into the community. Now, the community is my ministry and the people of the community are my congregation. No buildings, no choirs, no collection plates…just serving and helping others.

The Coalition is a grassroots volunteer organization based in the Charleston, SC area. Our primary focus is on reducing violent crime. A vital component in what we do involves interacting with the families of homicide victims…from the time of the incident to following up after the formal services. At our public events, we offer the survivors who have partnered with us a public forum where they can share the pain of their loss with others, in the hope that those who hear will turn away from violence.

The heart of The Coalition is to save our children. To reach the youth, we’re now working within the local public school system. Over the past year, we have been instrumental in implementing an innovative youth mentoring program at a local elementary school, and we are looking forward to expanding that program into other schools after the first of the year (2015).

I am the president of the Carolina Alliance for Fair Employment - Charleston Chapter…a position that offers no financial compensation. As president of C.A.F.E., I am actively engaged with organizations and people who deal with workplace discrimination, advocate for a living wage for all workers in America and promote unions for the protection of worker’s rights.

In all this, no one pays me for my services…and, I have never asked anyone to pay. I profit nothing from the work that I do. But, without having income, it is very difficult to stay engaged in this struggle. Most of the time, keeping gas for my vehicle is a problem. To that end, I am asking for your help. I need you so that I can keep helping those in need. Would you please consider donating to help me in the fight against violent crime and workplace injustice? Contributions of any amount will be humbly be received, and all donations will go toward the betterment of our community and its residents.

Please pray for my success and, if you can, please give. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
