Hello. I am desperately trying to save the life of a stray cat I found sitting motionless in traffic on an East Oakland street. He was half bald from a bad scabies infestation and his eyes were shut closed from corneal scratches. He looked miserable and was very hungry. He was obviously unable to care for himself and was in immediate danger.
Although I have three pets of my own and definitely cannot keep him, I picked him up, fed him, and immediately took him to my veterinarian.
The vet said he is actually a fairly young cat. However, judging from his disheveled appearance, it seems that he has had a very rough life on the streets. They are currently caring for him, giving him hydration, and boarding him in isolation with treatments for his parasites. The vet feels he has a good chance to get better and go on to be a happy pet.
Unfortunately, he recently needed an X-ray with barium because he was vomiting plastic. Apparently this cat was so hungry and unable to find food for himself that he was eating plastic and random things he could find. The X-ray showed a life-threatening intestinal blockage which requires surgery.
His treatments and boarding costs have been expensive and are mounting but I continue to think he deserves a chance for a decent life that he has never had. Therefore, we named him CHANCE. Despite his horrible condition, he purrs constantly. I'd hate to have to euthanize him simply because of the costs associated with his necessary treatments.
Please help us save this cat by contributing even a few dollars or just pass this along to anyone you can.
Chance is currently being treated and boarded at Oceana Pet Hospital in Pacifica.
