THE STORY:

I am a monk who is permanently disabled, with heart and lung disease, and other medical conditions, which make it unlikely that I would survive being homeless. It is a huge concern to me that my pets, all rescues, would probably be killed, as well. We have nowhere to go. This life has been spent in service to God, by helping those here on earth. I help in every way I am able, including sharing my food, giving shelter to homeless people and animals, and giving sermons and teach meditation in local churches and organizations for free. I have a spiritual facebook group, and give spiritual counseling connected with that. I have never asked for or expected anything in return, other than the joy of helping others. Now, I need your help. I managed to pay off my tiny 20'x 22' home, but the deaths of several family members left me unable to pay the property taxes four years ago. Most states and counties have programs to help disabled people and seniors with their property taxes, but all such programs were discontinued in my area, San Bernardino, CA, in 2010. I found out last Thursday, that an upcoming program the tax office had said would help me, will not be available to anyone owing back taxes. Once one misses a tax payment, huge penalties and interest is added, and past and current taxes, plus penalties, must be paid together, in a lump sum. This makes it impossible for anyone on a small fixed income, such as myself. The amount owed to the tax ccollectot now is $10,500. About half of this is penalties, etc. They do not accept partial payments. This amount increases by $100 per month, until they sell my house, which could be as soon as July 1. They will set up a payment plan for me, if I pay $3,600 by 5pm on June 30. Then there would be 4 more yearly payments of the same size, plus $100 a month extra, for 5 years, in addition to paying all current taxes On time. If any of these payments was late, they would immediately sell my house. This means that over $500 a month would have to go to property tax, leaving me about $200 a month for everything else. Even with my austere life, this seems impossible, but it would at least postpone them selling my home. AARP has a website telling how the tax collectors are targeting disabled and senior citizens, to increase their county revenue by auctioning their homes. Romans 11:13 tells us that we should take care of and provide for Saints and God's peopleI, and practice hospitality. I surrender to God's will, but II do not believe that God wants me to die due to property taxes. Please find it in your heart to help save my life and home. Thank you! May you always be blessed...
