Please help us fund transportation for our family...
Organized by: Halimah Rodgers
I have a large family... Myself, 3 teenagers (ages 18,17& 15), an eleven year old, and finally my sweet boy , who is 5yrs. Old. I also have, two additional adult children (24 & 20) who live on their own, while still trying hard to assist me and their younger siblings the best they can. About Us: Not too much to say... I guess I'm just like several other Americans out there today, working' to help keep the lights on! My name is Halimah, pronounced (Hah-Lee-Mah)... I'm 41yrs old, I've been married three times, (to make a long story short... There's zero aide on either of those three fronts --But, I keep trying)... I have a bachelor's degree in Business Management and Human Resources... But, sadly I've taken a job (Asst. Manager @ Sonic Drive-In) that no one with those qualifications would normally take, simply due to lack of transportation to be able to get to better job opportunities. It's ok, I can walk there, and it's helping to keep us afloat bill wise --Most of the time. However; it cannot be the permanent solution, for us to truly survive. Then there's the two of my three teenage boys... Shaheed and Malik, who are both hard working young men, both with jobs. I'm so proud of both of them... They've giving up so much, to keep us from the streets again, that although it makes me proud, it also saddens my heart... Malik, my 18 yr old and Shaheed my 17yr old... Both dropped out of school about a year ago, because we became homeless. So, it's taken them both a year to finally be able to go back, while still being able to hold on to their jobs, at the same time. Honestly... My story is long... And, although very insignificant, in terms of many of my other fellow struggling Americans, it's very much the same... Struggling to stay afloat in a sea of uncertainty. Bottom-line, or the meat-n-potatoes of it... My children and I have been looking around at a few cars in our area, many of which either need too much work or constant maintenance, are simply way too much money, or require payment/installment plans... We've finally narrowed it down to five decent vehicles, that would serve our immediate and long-term purposes. The prices of these cars are varying, between $3000 to $2500... (To which, my children and I have saved $500)... However; All of this really just comes down to transportation... So, if there is anyone out there who has an extra vehicle in decent and drivable condition... That they maybe are not utilizing, and would be inclined to donate it to a hard working family... We would be severely grateful and appreciative!
