BENEFITING: FRIENDS OF HYALITE
Winter access to Hyalite Canyon is contingent upon Friends of Hyalite raising enough money to pay for plowing the road. If the road isn't plowed then the law requires it to be gated and Bozeman's backyard will be closed for the winter. No money, no plowing, nobody gets to enjoy Hyalite this winter. It's that simple.
Friends of Hyalite depends on grants and donations to pay for plowing Hyalite. Many of the grant opportunities that we have relied on in past years have come to an end and this year private donations matter more than ever. So, if you are looking forward to sledding, skiing, climbing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, firewood cutting, or wildlife watching in Hyalite this winter, please, do your part and donate!
Hyalite road plowing is accomplished through a cost-share agreement between Gallatin County, the Gallatin National Forest, and Friends of Hyalite. Friends of Hyalite provides the bulk of the funding, the County supplies the equipment and manpower, and the Forest Service covers administrative costs. Therefore, in order for the road to be plowed Friends of Hyalite needs to raise approximately $25,000 each year.
Thousands of people drive up the Hyalite road each winter. If everybody chips in a little bit we'll have the money we need to plow the road.
