Plumb Place has been a home for women in need since 1921; we believe every woman deserves a place to call home.
Here at Plumb Place women are able to have a safe haven where they can work on goals to increase their skills and income, have every need met from basic needs such as shelter, nourishment, and safety to building a sense of community, working on increasing self-image and esteem, processing traumas, and focusing on personal goals, in a safe and comforting environment.
Plumb Place offers short term emergency shelter and longer term transitional housing, which can last up to 2 years if necessary.
We aim to be the last homeless shelter a woman needs, and to equip her with the tools necessary for self-sufficiency and confidence so when she leaves Plumb Place she goes into her own permanent, independent housing!
Plumb Place is located in Emporia, Kansas but serves women from all over the world who find themselves in our little prairie town. We have had occupants in the past two years from all over the United States and two foreign nations. Whatever the situation that caused her to be homeless, when a woman comes to our door, she is welcome.
On the very first day, we make sure a new occupant has a bag of food, a bag of hygiene supplies, her own fresh clean room with a made bed and a dish set. If she needs clothing, she is able to get what she needs from our casual clothing area in the on-site laundry room. And later, when she has a job interview, we take her to the interview clothing room, where she can pick out an entire outfit so she can walk into that interview with confidence, dressed to impress!
In the first week, she meets with the program manager and art therapist and sets her own individual case management and therapeutic plan in place. From then on, she meets weekly or bi-weekly for intensive case management, life skills education, and art therapy.
Our program is only made possible through community contributions, both big and small which are a necessary supplement to federal grants. Monetary donations from individuals like yourself who believe in Plumb Place's mission are vital to making sure this program continues! Thank you so much, for your support!
