THE STORY:
Low self-esteem is a thinking disorder in which an individual views him/herself as inadequate, unlovable, and/or incompetent. Once formed, this negative view permeates every thought, producing faulty assumptions and ongoing self-defeating behavior. Over 70% of girls age 15 to 17 avoid normal daily activities, such as attending school, when they feel bad about their looks. 75% of girls with low self-esteem reported engaging in negative activities like cutting, bullying, smoking, drinking, or disordered eating. Our See Positive Teen Self Esteem program aims to help the youth see the positive within themselves and their future, by hosting self esteem workshops in high schools, foster care homes, group homes, and youth groups across the metro Atlanta area. Since its inception, we have grown from an average of 75 teens to serving over 125 under-privileged children and their parents each year. We need your help in continuing our service and expanding into youth facilities across Georgia.
