The Poco Bonito project is forced to change its location since the landlord will not lease his property anymore. We had an agreement with him for us being able to rent it until April, but he is in a hurry. It is very likely we have to leave the place a lot sooner than expected. Probably before a month from now! As you maybe can imagen, this news left us with a lot of stress and sleepless nights. The possibility of losing our project, of which we worked so hard for, is very real.
PB is so much more than ' just' a gallery! It is a free space, an oasis of acceptance and tolerance while combatting racism and injustice in the Cuban society. These are the main reasons why PB is sponsoring hip-hop and reggae concerts. In addition to that, PB is taking their 'artivism' to the streets as well to make our society more colorful and improve people lives.
To make sure all our effort wasn't in vain and to continue our work, we have been searching like crazy for a new location. Soon we discovered that renting is not an option anymore. Due to the housing crisis and high prices we ran out of options. The buildings on the main road are already taken and internet practically non-exsisting. These things make the changes of running a successful gallery even smaller. We started changing in a new direction.
A fresh start with a social center! Expand what we already did, and do what our strengths are! Still in the center and easily accessible, only not in the main street. The amount of reggaeton is overwhelming and so is its influence in society, unfortunately in a negative sense.
Right now, there are very few alternatives for reggaeton music in the public space. We want to change that to give people, both local as tourist, a break from that we will play (a live) music like soul, blues hip-hop alternative international music and reggae ect. Besides music, we want to serve coffee & tea, vegetarian food.
A place like this, doesn’t exist yet in Cienfuegos. The center will also host a barber and tattoo shop. Of course, the gallery will take an important part in the center. Basically, we want to bring more life and variety We feel we owe this to our society. It all sounds like a dream, but can become very real! We only need your help
Please continue reading because this is where it starts to become interesting for you as well as for us. We need ' only' 25.000 to accomplish this. This is not a question to you to simply donate the money, but we ask for a loan. In return, you can pick art from PB artists Alberto or José A. Montes aka ' Toothfairy' as a warrenty. It is yours to keep! We will pay back all the money to you as soon as we can. The art is the interest of your loan to us.
