THE STORY:

Imagine Dallas Literary Arts, Inc. wrote -

Can you memorize four poems this National Poetry Month? Take the challenge and help raise money for poetry education by inviting your friends and family to sponsor you.

How it works

Sign up on by clicking the grey "FUNDRAISE FOR THIS CAMPAIGN" button on the right. You'll get your own fundraising page, where you can tell the good people of the world what poems you've chosen to memorize this month and why they should sponsor you with a donation to Imagine Dallas Literary Arts, Inc. As you learn your poems, if you like, you can post videos of yourself reciting them and share them across the net.

Win Prizes

All participants in the challenge are entered into a random drawing for a bundle of books by local authors, including a signed copy of The New World by Frederick Turner and books by Alex Lemon, Corey Marks, and others to be announced.

The top fundraiser will win a set of gift cards to area bookstores, including The Wild Detectives, Serj Books, and others to be announced.

(Staff and board members of Imagine Dallas and their families are not eligible for these prizes.)

Imagine Dallas

Sponsors' gifts to Imagine Dallas send tutors into schools to deliver vibrant, effective tutorials; promote readings by poets enthusiastically committed to a community of interpretation; and support the publication of important, beautiful, extravagant literary writing. Thank you for your generous help!

A Pep Talk

This April, don't just read poetry. Work it into the rhythm of your daily life. Your chair swivels left, that's a line. It swivels right and that's a rhyme. Poetry discovers the richness of our existence in the world that we are always forgetting. Memorize the words that stir you, not that they will give you constant light--leave that to the fluorescent overheads--but so that the truth in the words can well up in you when you need it.
