Haywood Waterways will be hosting a Polar Plunge benefit for Kids in the Creek on Saturday, February 23 at 11:30 am at the Lake Junaluska Assembly beach. A hot chili lunch will follow. We’re seeking as many valiant souls as possible to brave the frigid waters of Lake Junaluska and help raise money for our premier education event, one that the teachers call “extremely valuable for teaching about water quality” and the students call “cool”. I’ll save you the facts but we do have data that demonstrate Kids in the Creek is a very effective tool for bringing out environmentally-responsible behaviors in the kids.
Come join us just so you can say you participated in the very first Polar Plunge at Lake Junaluska and have something to brag to your friends about. All ages welcome, though kids should definitely get your parent’s permission (they’re going to have to sign the liability waiver anyway). Shirt and shoes are mandatory, costumes are encouraged. Cost is $20 and you can register by "Joining the Team" here on Crowdrise. You can also donate here without taking “the Plunge” (it’s actually a run into the water from the beach) or sponsor other Plungers. We are also seeking sponsorships and we’ll do our best to promote your business in every way possible.
There will be great prizes for the top fundraisers and best costumes. The chili lunch costs $5 and those proceeds will benefit the Lake Junaluska Assembly and their work to preserve the lake for the whole community to enjoy. The Assembly will have a bonfire going to help folks warm up as well as indoor changing and eating facilities. Since it is a Polar Plunge, the event will happen rain or shine!
