I’d like to tell you about the most exciting community service project that I’ve ever been a part of.
Poly House is the focus of my Cal Poly project management class, and, this year, the class is going above and beyond the amazing work done in the past.
Every year, Poly House renovates the home of a local family struggling with issues related to disabilities. The project gives students an opportunity to learn project planning and management, help those in need and gain exposure to the benefits of community service.
This spring, however, my classmates and I hope to resolve a long-standing issue in San Luis Obispo. For the past 10 years, Sunny Acres has housed homeless individuals and provided a unique rehabilitation program. Unfortunately, the grounds and facilities have been a point of contention because of code violations and unsightliness.
Our objective is to facilitate the successful alignment of code restrictions and enforcement between the county and Sunny Acres and build collaborative partnerships for the program’s long-term success. We also want to lay the foundation – literally! – for an 8,000-square-foot residence that will provide safe housing for the homeless.
We want to make Sunny Acres a point of pride for the community, a place that transforms lives. It’s ambitious – especially construction of the residence facility – but we know that we can accomplish our goals with your help.

We receive no funding and depend entirely upon the generosity of businesses and individuals in the community to make Poly House happen. We have three giving levels for the project: Gold (gifts of $2,000 and above), Silver ($1000-$1999), and Bronze (gifts of $999 and below).
We will need to raise $400,000 in donations and in-kind gifts in order to obtain the materials to complete the project. I hope you’ll give what you can to support this important cause. Checks should be made payable to Cal Poly IME Dept. with “Poly House” written in the memo section. We also need a wide range of materials and tools. If you wish to donate materials or tools please contact me or my professor Dr. Roya Javadpour at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your contribution is tax deductible (Tax ID: 20-4927897), and we will provide you with appropriate documentation. All gifts will be recognized on a banner at the job site viewable by the press, on our project website (http://www.polyhouse.org), and with a certificate of appreciation that you will receive. We will also recognize your contribution in the Cal Poly Honor Roll of Donors published each fall.
We are committed to making a difference, and we are definitely dreaming big in our goal to provide housing at Sunny Acres. But together we can achieve so much. Thanks in advance for your generous support.
