Update: Poo Kitty seemed to be responding well to initial treatment, but now has begun crying-out constantly and is not gaining weight as quickly as we hoped. This could be something as simple as needing a higher dose of his current medication, or indicative of a new problem completely. Elise will be bringing Poo Kitty back to the vet for another appointment this week and needs to raise $310 more dollars for another exam, a urinalysis, another round of blood work to restest thyroid levels, and more medication. Hopefully the vet can get Poo Kitty's condition under control and have him feeling better in no time! We appreciate all the help that has been given so far, and continue to appreciate all of the kind words and support.
This is Poo Kitty! Though many of you may know him, you might not know his story. He was found in a dumpster 9 years ago, hairless, hungry, and struggling. He had a terrible respiratory infection and looked to be on his last legs, so Elise took him in so that he wouldn't have to die alone outside. But with a lot of TLC, Poo Kitty thrived and has gone on to live nearly a decade longer! Happy and healthy... until now.
Officially a senior, PK was recently diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism (for which he will have to take daily medication) and a severe Urinary Tract Infection. That explains his dramatic weightloss and voracious appetite! In addition to the hundreds of dollars in vet bills racked up in an effort to reach this diagnosis, Poo Kitty now requires repeated blood work to check his Thyroid levels and monitor his treatment as well as daily medication for the rest of his life. The vet has assured Elise that once Poo Kitty is treated correctly, he will gain weight and live out the rest of his life (which could be several more years!) comfortably as he should.
Please help Elise cover the cost of recent trips to the vet and necessary medications by donating anything you can! Even $10 or $15 donations can help provide adequate care for Poo Kitty. It is not lightly that we ask for donations, and we genuinely appreciate whatever amount you consider contributing.
