BENEFITING: EMERGING LEADERS IN TECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING
EVENT DATE: Mar 01, 2014
One of the goals of ELiTE is to increase access to quality educational resources for students from resource limited communities. Pop-up Labs is our moonshot idea to bring Computer Science education to the most underserved communities. ELiTE has built mobile computer labs in backpacks using Raspberry Pi computers hacked with additional hardware to produce durable laptops for approximately $100/unit.
In the hands of trained volunteers or partner organizations, these labs can increase exposure, access and interest in Computer Science or other STEM fields. We will use these backpacks, to facilitate community workshops in underserved communities and considerably expand our reach to complement our existing programming. Students who demonstrate potential during such workshops will be invited to participate in ELiTE’s afterschool and summer programs where they can interact with peers and mentors who can support their growth.
We hope to configure 10 backpacks at approximately $1,000 per backpack to facilitate computer science outreach in the US and in West Africa in early 2014. Please help us meet our $10,000 goal by March 1st 2014!
