BENEFITING: PROJECT 1808 INC
In the wake of the ebola outbreak, communities have been devasted in many ways by the deadly virus.
While many local, governmental and international organizations are providing support and supplies, support for post-ebola initiatives are yet to be addressed. In Sierra Leone for instance, all schools have been shut down indefinitely leaving thousands of youth without opportunities for learning. This is especially alarming for Sierra leone as it is still in the rebuilding process after a civil war.
During the 11 year civil war in Sierra Leone’s human capacity, institutions, & infrastructure including schools, libraries, quality teachers, access to education, were all demolished. students lost their parents, guardians and care takers. As a result, thousands of student became dropouts without access to education.
Strategic Post ebola plans are vital for continuous development in this community. Already Considered one of the poorest districts in sierra leone, it will become even more difficult for parents to be able to financially support their children when schools do reopen given current inflation rates as an outcome of the ebola epidemic. Youth development through education and empowerment is not only fundamental for the future of sierra leone but will define the future of the nation and it’s contirution to the global community
In order to prvent dropout rates, our goal at project1808 is to increase the number of students we support financially from 56 to 400. The cost of support one student per year including fees, supplies and uniform is $46 for primary school students and $100 for a high school student.
With your support we will be able to not only reinstate students back in schools but help revive a spirit of optimisim in the community by continuing to provide access to education and empowerment for the next generations of leaders. Leaders who may just someday be the stakeholders in addressing emergency crisis like Ebola.
