We are super excited to be a host for Nova Scotia's Biggest Potluck in support of Feed Nova Scotia. About FEED NOVA SCOTIA Our mission is to feed Nova Scotians in need, and to reduce that need. To achieve this, we distribute almost 2 million kilograms of donated food to our network of 146 food banks, meal programs, and shelters across the province. But our role extends beyond food. We support our members as they build capacity to serve their communities, and we raise awareness of the challenges hunger and poverty create each day for thousands of Nova Scotians. Take a look at our annual report to learn more about us, the issues, and how we’re working with our members and the community to make a difference. Quick Facts: • More than 44,000 Nova Scotians access assistance from a food bank—one third are children. • For every $2 we receive, we can distribute enough donated food to provide 3 meals worth of food to our member food banks, meal programs, and shelters. • Last year we distributed 1.8 million kilograms of food—56% of that was perishable items like fresh vegetables and fruits, meat, and dairy products. • More than 1 in 5 Nova Scotian children lives in poverty. • Nova Scotia has the third highest rate of child poverty in Canada at 22.5%. • 15.4% of households in Nova Scotia are food insecure.
