This photo of my family was taken a year ago. You would never know that I had been very sick for months and the day after this photo was taken I was rushed to the emergency room, unable to walk up stairs or stand unaided. POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) is a disorder of the autonomic nervous system. It is an often debilitating "invisible illness" and there is no cure.
A form of Dysautonomia, POTS causes abnormal heart rate increases, dangerous blood pressure fluctuations, small fiber neuropathy, fatigue, headaches, lightheadedness, heart palpitations, exercise intolerance, nausea, diminished concentration, tremulousness (shaking), syncope (fainting), coldness or pain in the extremities, chest pain and shortness of breath.
Thank you for supporting my participation in the 2017 POTS Walk & 5K to benefit Dysautonomia International!
