Hello - I'm Paul Mushaho! I'm the leader of the very new Rotaract Club in Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda. We started the club just a few weeks ago and we'll be participating in the 5k!
Nakivale is home to over 130,000 people who have found refuge from 13 different countries. We have almost 50 members in the club from many of these countries - Congolese, Burundians, Somalis... We also have women and men represented, and most of our members are between 20 -25 years old.
We're working to raise money to serve our community here in Nakivale. Since we started the club, we've been working to put Service Before Self and do projects to help the newest residents here. We went to the reception center, where new arrivals spend their first couple of days or weeks in Nakivale, and did some improvement projects - we fumigated rooms and cleared the weeds in the yard so the children could play...(check out our photos).
We have lots more ideas. And there are a lot of people in Nakivale who can use our help. So, we're working to raise money, and our goal is $15,000. If we can reach that mark, we'll qualify for a global grant from Rotary International that will match the funds we raise and help our club do much more.
I believe unity is power. There are things I want to do but I know I can't do them myself. So, I'm coming together with my fellow Rotaractors to make new things happen here in Nakivale and change all of our lives.
We'll be running in the World Refugee Day 5k on June 20 to support our new Rotaract club. I hope you can support us in our goal to raise $15,000!
