BENEFITING: MEDIA POWER YOUTH
We remember Harrisburg, Wichita, Roseberg, Sandy Hook, and Columbine. For many of us school was a safe haven and the center of learning. What will our children remember? Lock downs, hiding under desks, armed guards, security checks, ID cards? What can we do as individuals and as a community? There is something you can do now - Support Media Power Youth -formed 15 years ago in response to the growing influence of media on children’s health, behaviors, and decision making from violence and bullying, to substance use and lifestyle choices. Children spend 5-8 hours a day with media. What they see, hear and do with media impacts their lives and behaviors. Media Power Youth works with communities to create and implement programs to help children use media to promote healthy choices. Media Power Youth is now placed in the forefront of media literacy education by the NH Office of the Attorney General, the Governor, the NH Dept. of Education, the NH Pediatric Society and the NH School Principals’ Association. The work is not over. The need is greater than ever before. Educators, law enforcement, medical professionals and entire communities in NH and beyond are in need of Media Power Youth. Today, you can answer their call by contributing to online development of our programs so we can reach all educators, parents and those serving children in 2016 and beyond. Let’s give our children, grandchildren and all children wonderful childhood memories.
