Power To Our Veterans
Organized by: Chris Edwards
Power to our Veterans Our mission Power to our Veterans is a project we have organized to provide energy certificates to elderly and disabled veterans and their families that are living on less than adequate government assistance and fixed incomes. We will be providing energy certificates generated from solar powered farms to help reduce utility bills for wounded, disabled and aging veterans living on fixed incomes. Our initial project will be located in Orange/Osceola County Florida and will provide relief for veterans that are located within the DUKE Energy service area. The project details are as follows: 1. Purchase of 5.35 acre parcel of vacant land located in Orlando/Kissimmee, Florida. 2. Initial purchase of (84) 305 watt solar panels with installation hardware and mounting equipment. 3. Installation of panels by a state certified solar installer. 4. Set-up of inverters and net metering with the local utility. 5. Connection to power grid for sale of power back to the utility. How it works Initially we will be installing 84 solar panels that will produce 3843 kilowatt hours of power on a monthly basis. 70% of this power will be allocated to veterans and their families to reduce their utility bills by 50% or more. The remaining 30% will be allocated to maintenance reserves, insurance costs, property taxes and continued expansion of the solar farm. We will expand the farm by 4 panels per month until the property is at full capacity. Once at full capacity, the farm will generate approximately 35,000 kilowatt hours of power that will provide utility bill relief for 100 veterans and their families for 25-30 years. Our goal is to establish a benchmark that can be duplicated across the state and ultimately throughout the country, in hopes of providing relief to as many veterans and their families as possible. The process is simple but costly. Our cost for the first project will be approximately $98,000 which we hope to raise through various local fundraisers with veterans groups and grass roots crowd funding through various outlets. The more dollars we raise the quicker we can expand our program into different areas to provide much needed relief to our service members. The cost breakdown of our first site is as follows: Land acquisition: $23,000.00 Land preparation and grading: $9,790.00 Solar Panels, Installation hardware and mounting equipment: $41,990.00 Panel Installation: $13,350.00 Permitting, Net meter set-up and grid tie: $4,970.00 Legal Expenses: $4,900.00 Total Project Costs: $98,000.00 If you have any questions or would like to discuss the project in more detail, please feel free to contact me directly Chris Edwards at 603-852-0841. I would be happy to speak with you about what we are doing here in central Florida and our plans for expansion into different areas. Thank you for your support God bless our Veterans and God bless America.
