EVENT DATE: Sep 28, 2014
Pranathon is a 5-hour challenge for Cal students and Berkeley community members to raise our “prana” - life force energy - by reconnecting with our bodies, refreshing our minds, stretching our imaginations, and celebrating life with each other. Throughout the event, participants will rejuvenate themselves and build community through meditation & yoga, dance & music, creative writing, & interactive theater.
Like with a marathon, Pranathoners raise funds from friends and family, collectively challenged to meet our goal of $10,000. Proceeds of Pranathon will benefit UC Berkeley’s Your Enlighted Side club, which organizes Yesplus meditation, conscious living, and prana-raising events and programs on campus, so that students can connect to themselves, each other, and to a deeper sense of purpose.
Why and how do I join Pranathon?
Do you believe that college students need to learn how to tap into natural energy, joy, connections, and positive community, so they can enter the world as vibrant, resilient, compassionate leaders? Do you want to support this cause by challenging yourself to raise your own life-force energy for 5 hours on September 28?
To join Pranathon, create your own fundraiser page here on crowdrise, and pay the minimum amount ($15 for students, $25 for community members). Take a l'il selfie video and write about why you support this cause. Make it personal. Make it real - about your own experiences in college or in life, where you wished you knew how to celebrate life even in the midst of chaos and struggle.
THEN set a fundraising goal, and raise as much money as you can through social media, your friends and family, and any other fabulous ideas. We'll announce the biggest fundraisers at the event!
What happens during Pranathon?
During this lively and engaging event, Pranathoners will move our bodies in dance and yoga and refresh our minds through guided meditation and kirtan (Sanskrit singing). We will explore our creativity through writing and interactive theater, and learn through direct experience how to raise our prana in our everyday lives. Pranathon inspires meaningful connections - an opportunity to unplug our phones and our laptops and relate to each other on a very human level. What makes it a challenge is how engaged we can stay - with ourselves and each other, how far we can stretch our perceived creative limitations, and how high we can raise our energy.
Who is behind Pranathon?
Pranathon is being hosted by the Art of Living Berkeley chapter, to build conscious community in Berkeley and to raise funds for UC Berkeley student activities. We collaborate with Berkeley’s community groups to offer diverse programming.
