Happy Birthday Sweetheart!
On the occasion of Nidhi’s 3rd birthday - August 15th,2015, we want to donate to a cause we believe in. From the minute she was born, we have been proud to have her as our treasure "Nidhi." We are donating to Pratham USA (www.prathamusa.org), an organization that helps underprivileged children in India receive an education.
Each day is a celebration of the day Nidhi came into our lives, not just her birthday. Every moment is one to cherish, even through tears and tantrums.Memories flood our minds as we think about her first smile, words, steps, and other milestones. Each day, it seems, we notice that she is growing and learning more and more. She has given us loads of joy and happiness and these emotions have only increased over the last 3 years. Climbing up your playground ladder, counting to 20 , singing all the words to your favorite movie, Frozen. You are becoming a young lady, and We couldn’t be more proud of you. When she runs to the door screaming "Mama…Pa," after we get home from work, our hearts melt. On her 3rd birthday, our love for her is 3X as strong and nothing will ever change that.
If you really wish to give a gift on this occasion, then let it be one that will help those with greater needs than ours. You can make a tax-deductible donation to Pratham. Our goal is to raise $1500. And thanks to an anonymous donor who has offered a dollar-for-dollar match, if we reach our goal, we can establish libraries in 300 villages, thereby supporting the education of thousands of children.
For those of you unfamiliar with Pratham, here’s a little background. It is one of the largest non-profit entities in India’s education sector. They provide quality education to underprivileged children all across the country and last year reached over 7.7 million children. Pratham works hard to address perhaps the single greatest challenge in India—education; and it does so with intelligence, effectiveness and integrity.
Their programs are proving to drastically improve learning—after only 30 to 40 days of instruction in a Pratham learning camp, 80% of children become readers. Watch this video of young Nancy to see for yourself what this means for a child's confidence and outlook.
Unfortunately, many children regress after the camps and experience learning loss because books are unavailable. If we can provide sustained access to books, we can continue to engage and to foster excitement around learning. For a modest $100, Pratham is able to set up a library with 200-250 books, story cards and other materials in one village.
Special thanks to Anuja Butala from Pratham and our dear friend Mitali Monalisa for helping us to set up this fundraiser.
