EVENT DATE Nov 02, 2014
Updates: Thank you to everyone who has supported our "Pray For Ruby" campaign. The fundraiser is now closed, all proceeds were donated to the Kim family to help with medical/funeral costs. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kim family during their time of grief. Rest in paradise Aunty Ruby.
Aunty Ruby is one of our team member's mother who is currently suffering stage 4 uterine sarcoma cancer. She was diagnosed with stage 1 uterine cancer back in december 2013, got a hysterectomy, and then went straight into chemotherapy. She lost her hair, her nails, and all her self-esteem during chemotherapy. When she was finally finished with chemo, the doctors failed to give her another CT scan and assumed she was cancer-free based on the fact that she "looked cured". Four months later, she started suffering severe abdominal pain and fluid build up. When she went back to the doctors to figure out what was wrong, they concluded the cancer had aggressively spread to the lungs creating a tumor. Since the only other treatment option the doctors offered was another type of chemotherapy that would be extremely taxing on her body, her family has opted to go with alternative treatment options that their insurance won't cover. She is currently in hospice care because the doctors have claimed that there are no other treatment options they can offer her. Ruby is still fighting everyday and she wants more than anything to beat this cancer. Although the doctors have given up on her, she refuses to lose hope. "Pray for Ruby" was created to show our support and help pay for her medical costs & donate towards cancer research. Since uterine sarcoma cancer is still a new and rare type of cancer, not a lot of research has gone into it. There also has been limitations to research in alternative treatments (Gerson therapy, essential oil therapy, etc) due to the pharmaceutical industries fearing competition. Therefore your donation will not only extend the life of Aunty ruby, but also contribute to cancer reseach for rare diseases as well as alternative cancer treatments.
"Pray for Ruby" was created to collect donations and pledges as the Veloxis team participates in the Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure" Nov. 2, 2014 at Kapi'olani Park. All proceeds will be donated to Aunty Ruby's costs and "Race for the Cure".
