BENEFITING: MOUNT MEIGS ACCELERATED CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
Objectives: Provide Christian Education scholarships for 30 preschool students, ages 2 through 5. MMACA’s overall goal is to provide early childhood education in a Christian environment that allows children to understand the world from a Christ-centered perspective and to learn all they can, as early as they can: spiritually, academically, socially, and physically.
Motivation: The following quote from the Brookings Institute Press, titled: “Impacts of early childhood programs,” is only one of many that emphasize the importance of early childhood education. “FROM NEUROSCIENTISTS TO ECONOMISTS, A RANGE OF RESEARCHERS HAVE FOCUSED ATTENTION ON THE CRITICAL IMPORTANCE OF CHILDREN’S EARLY YEARS. AT THE SAME TIME, BUSINESS, EDUCATION, AND POLITICAL LEADERS HAVE UNDERSCORED THE GOAL OF ENSURING THAT YOUNG CHILDREN ENTER SCHOOL “READY TO LEARN,” SO THAT THEY CAN SUCCEED IN SCHOOL AND AS THE NEXT GENERATION OF WORKERS AND CITIZENS. IDEALS OF EQUAL OPPORTUNITY PROVIDE FURTHER IMPETUS FOR ADDRESSING GAPS IN SKILLS AT EARLY AGES, SO THAT CHILDREN FROM DISADVANTAGED FAMILIES HAVE A FIGHTING CHANCE TO ACHIEVE THE AMERICAN DREAM.”
Mount Meigs Accelerated Christian Academy (MMACA) seeks to fill the gap through which many young children advantaged and disadvantaged fall for one reason or another.
Curriculum: MMACA uses Teaching Strategies, “Creative Curriculum,” as its early childhood curriculum augmented with direct instruction. The “Creative Curriculum” is aligned with National and Alabama pre-school standards. MMACA uses a self-paced instructional philosophy which allows each child to master the standards at his/her individual pace. For example: A two-year old that has mastered the preschool standards for 2 year-olds, is introduced to the preschool standards for 3 year-olds, and so on. Many children simply need a small classroom environment and a little extra attention from dedicated teachers in order to excell. MMACA provides that environment.
