"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" - Nelson Mandela
Can you imagine going to school hungry every day? Can you imagine going to school and not understanding the language your teacher speaks?
Sadly, this is the reality for the majority of children in Guatemala's indigenous areas.
- In Guatemala, 80% of indigenous children are chronically malnourished, which causes lifelong, irreversible physical and mental impairments.
- Spanish is the offical language of the Guatemalan school system, but many indigenous children speak only their local indigenous language at home. They are therefore at a huge disadvantage when they enter primary school.
- Entering school unprepared leads to huge dropout rates among indigenous students, and many are unable to get the vital education that would lead to more opportunities and a brighter future.
Mayan Families' Preschool Nutrition Centers exist to fight chronic childhood malnutrition and send children to school fully prepared, so that they can make the most of their education and break the cycle of poverty.
I am fundraising to help keep these preschools open. If you believe that we can work together to help end poverty, please help me reach my goal.

If (when) I hit my goal of $500, I will wear traditional Guatemalan clothing (click the arrows underneath the photo to see) to the office for a whole week. As if helping to end poverty and hunger wasn't reward enough, if you want to see me looking as awesome as the stylish gentlemen in the photos (for a whole week. At work), please donate.
